Day Four of the Advent Calendar
Welcome to day four of the Advent Calendar! Today, we will be completing our hexagons and joining them together. Here's what you need and a step-by-step guide on how to do it.
Required Materials
To complete the day's activity, you will need the following materials:
- Your hexagons
- Day four's color yarn
- Crochet hook
Make sure you have four hexagons in one color and three in the other color. Also, remember to check the community tab on the YouTube channel for any additional information or updates.
Joining the Hexagons
To start, make a slip knot and insert your crochet hook. Join the new color with a standing double crochet (or standing single crochet in US terms) into the first chain in any corner space. Chain two and then do a double crochet into the second chain of the corner space.
Next, you will have a pattern repeat. Work ten double crochets into the back loop only. Remember, for this stitch, you will only work into the back loop. Continue with this pattern until you reach the chain two space again. Finish off this round by joining with a slip stitch into the top of the standing double crochet from the first round.
Round Seven of the Hexagons
In round seven, we will continue working on the hexagons. Follow these steps to complete this round.
Joining the New Color
Chain one (which does not count as a stitch) and then do one double crochet into the chain two space. Chain two and then do twelve double crochets into the back loop only. Repeat this pattern five more times, alternating between double crochet into the chain two space, chain two, and twelve double crochets into the back loop only. Continue until you reach the last stitch.
Finishing Round Seven
For the last double crochet, insert the hook into the slip stitch from the beginning of the round. Then, fasten off your yarn and work an invisible join. Join all the hexagons using this pattern and repeat for each one.
Round Eight of the Hexagons
Moving on to round eight, here's what you need to do:
Continuing the Pattern Repeat
Chain one (does not count as a stitch) and then do one double crochet into the chain two space. Chain two and then do twelve double crochets into the back loop only. Repeat this pattern five more times, working your way around until you've finished the last twelve double crochets.
Finishing Round Eight
To finish round eight, do the last double crochet into the slip stitch from the beginning of the round. Fasten off your yarn and work an invisible join. Repeat this round for all your hexagons.
Joining the Hexagons Together
Now it's time to join your hexagons together. Follow these steps:
Holding the Hexagons Right Sides Together
Take two different colored hexagons and hold them right sides together, meaning the front side of each hexagon faces the other.
Joining with Slip Stitches
Using a slip knot on your hook, start joining one edge of the hexagons with a row of slip stitches. Work into the back loops only, starting from the closest loop to you and then the furthest loop away. Continue this technique all the way across the edge.
Repeat this process for all the hexagons until they are connected and lying side by side.
Conclusion
Congratulations on completing day four of the Advent Calendar! You've successfully joined your hexagons together to create a beautiful design. Remember to share your progress on Instagram by tagging @crochetsociety and @rosinaplane. Stay tuned for the next video and keep up the fantastic work!
