Introduction

Welcome back to my channel, loves! I'm Hollyanna, and in today's video, we will be discussing the July 2022 temperature blanket update. If you're new here or don't know what a temperature blanket is, allow me to explain. A temperature blanket is a unique blanket where you crochet or knit one row for every single day of the year, using a different color based on the temperature of that day. Some people use the high temperature, some people use the low, but I personally use the average temperature for each day. For this project, I decided to use classic cold and warm colors to represent the different temperatures. In this article, we will delve into the details of the temperature blanket, explore July's temperature update, and discuss the exciting concept of a temperature pillow.

What is a Temperature Blanket?

A temperature blanket is an innovative project that allows you to visually represent the temperatures throughout the year. Each day, you crochet or knit a row using a specific color that corresponds to the temperature of that day. The color chart is typically created in advance, assigning each temperature range a different color. As the year progresses, the rows of different colors come together to create a beautiful and unique blanket that tells the story of the year's weather.

The Color Chart

The color chart is a crucial component of a temperature blanket project. It determines the color assigned to each temperature range. While the color choices are subjective and can vary depending on personal preferences, many people opt for a color scheme that reflects the temperature range (e.g., cool blues for colder temperatures and warm yellows for hotter temperatures). The color chart serves as a guide throughout the project, helping to select the appropriate color for each day's temperature.

July Temperature Update

July has arrived, and it's time for another temperature update! If you've been following our temperature blanket journey closely, you may have noticed that we have yet to use two colors in our blanket: pool and cherry red. Pool represents temperatures of 9 degrees Fahrenheit and below, while cherry red represents temperatures of 90 degrees Fahrenheit and above. Although Nashville, Tennessee (where I live), has experienced temperatures hitting 98, 99, and even 100 degrees, the highest average temperature recorded has been 89 degrees. As a result, we have primarily used the color coral throughout July, with only a handful of days in the 70s.

The Idea for a Temperature Pillow

During my temperature blanket updates, many of you asked whether I would crochet the days spent in Los Angeles (LA) using the LA temperatures or continue with the Nashville temperatures. To maintain consistency and avoid confusion, I decided to start a second temperature project: a temperature pillow. The idea was suggested by viewers on YouTube and TikTok, and it instantly resonated with me. By creating a temperature pillow for LA, I will have a representation of both Nashville and LA's weather throughout the year.

Starting the Temperature Pillow

Excited about the prospect of having a temperature pillow, I wasted no time in getting started. As with the temperature blanket, I will be using the average temperature of each day in LA, beginning on January 1st. The temperature chart for the pillow will be the same as the one used for the temperature blanket, allowing for easy comparison between the two. By laying both the pillow and blanket side by side, we can gain a comprehensive understanding of the weather differences between Nashville and LA throughout the year.

Comparing the Temperature Blanket and Pillow

As I work on my temperature pillow, I can't help but compare it to the temperature blanket. One notable difference is the time required to complete each row. The temperature blanket takes approximately 14 and a half minutes to crochet one row undistracted, but with the usual distractions and live-streaming, it takes around 30 minutes per row. In contrast, the temperature pillow involves shorter rows, resulting in a quicker project. This is advantageous as it allows me to see progress more rapidly and increases the likelihood of taking it with me to LA, where I can work on it during my travels.

The Convenience of the Temperature Pillow

One of the main benefits of the temperature pillow project is its size and portability. Unlike the temperature blanket, which is large and cumbersome, the temperature pillow is compact enough to carry in my carry-on bag. This means I can work on it during my trips to LA and show my LA roommates the progress in person. Additionally, having a physical representation of my time split between Nashville and LA adds an extra layer of meaning to this project. Whether I spend six months or longer in LA, the temperature pillow will forever serve as a memento of this significant chapter in my life.

Splitting Time Between Nashville and LA

Splitting my time between Nashville and LA has been a major step for me. It signifies my commitment to pursuing a full-time content creator career and immersing myself in new adventures. While I initially had concerns about switching between Nashville and LA temperatures for the blanket, the idea of a temperature pillow solved this predicament. It allows me to maintain consistency with the Nashville blanket while simultaneously representing LA's temperatures in a separate project. This decision was made possible thanks to the fantastic suggestion from my viewers.

Conclusion

In conclusion, my temperature blanket and pillow projects have provided me with a tangible way to document and compare the weather in Nashville and LA. It's an exciting journey, and I'm grateful for the support and ideas from my viewers. The temperature pillow offers convenience and serves as a smaller, travel-friendly alternative to the temperature blanket. As I continue to crochet both projects, I look forward to seeing the final results and reflecting on the significant moments of my time in both Nashville and LA.
