Introduction

Welcome to this Sunday Funday brunch day skirt tutorial! In this tutorial, I will guide you through the process of creating a super fun and festive skirt. Get ready to grab your yarn and let's get started!

Materials Needed

Before we begin, make sure you have the following materials ready:

  • Yarn
  • Crochet hook (3.5mm and 4mm)
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape
  • Drawstring or closure (optional)
  • Buttons or hook-and-eye closures (optional)

Making the Waistband

To start, we will make the waistband of the skirt. First, create a slipknot and chain up 14 stitches, plus 2 for the turning chain. Use a 3.5mm hook for this step. Once you have the 14 chains, place a half double crochet in the third chain from the hook, and continue with half double crochets all the way down. After completing the 14 stitches, chain up 1 and place a single crochet in the back loop only. Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the waistband reaches the desired length, around 27 inches. You can slip stitch the ends together or stitch the corners to secure the waistband.

Creating the Base Part of the Skirt

Now it's time to create the base part of the skirt. Switch to a 4mm hook and slip stitch the two ends of the waistband together. Then, single crochet all the way around. After reaching the seam, slip stitch in the first single crochet. Chain up 2 and place 1 double crochet into the back loop only all the way around. This forms the base part of the skirt, which is the part under the tiers.

Adding Tiers to the Skirt

The next step is to add tiers to the skirt. For each section, start by chaining up two and working a row of double crochets in the back loop for the first row. From the second row onwards, double crochet in both loops. Each section should have a total of 9 double crochet rows, including the back loop row. If needed, you can increase every other row to accommodate the hip size by placing 2 double crochets in every 6th stitch. Repeat this process for each section, adjusting the number of rows according to your desired length.

Finishing the Skirt

Once you have completed all the sections, it's time to finish the skirt. For each section, switch back to the 3.5mm hook and start the first tier from the bottom section. Make a slipknot and go into the seam of the back loop row where the section started. Chain 1 and place 1 single crochet in the back loop all the way around. After reaching the chain one space, slip stitch into the first single crochet and chain 1. Place 2 single crochets into each stitch. Slip stitch into the first single crochet to complete the round. Chain 2 and place 1 double crochet in each stitch. Slip stitch in the chain 2 space to finish.

Adding a Drawstring or Closure

To secure the waistband, you can add a drawstring or closure. You can make a chain that is twice the length of the waistband and weave it through the back loop of the single crochet in the waistband. This will allow you to lace up the band and make it easy to get in and out of the skirt. Alternatively, you can add buttons, hooks, or Velcro as per your preference.

Variations and Customization

Feel free to experiment with different variations and customization options. You can create different lengths for the tiers or add more rows for each section. There are endless possibilities to make this skirt uniquely yours.
