Today, I want to share with you my works in progress (WIPs), finished objects, website updates, and some exciting new patterns. So let's get started and dive into the wonderful world of crochet!
Works in Progress
As a passionate crocheter, I always have several WIPs on my hook. They allow me to explore new techniques, experiment with different yarns, and keep my creative juices flowing. Currently, I have a variety of projects in progress that I can't wait to share with you.
Website Update
Before we delve into my current projects, I want to take a moment to talk about my new website, CrojoCorner.com. I've been working tirelessly to bring you a fantastic collection of blog posts, featuring adorable patterns and helpful tips. Head over to the website to explore the world of crochet, and don't forget to leave your comments and feedback!
Crocheted Washcloths
Sometimes, I need a break from complex patterns and projects that require intense concentration. To unwind and relax, I've been crocheting a few washcloths. These simple yet practical items are perfect for leisurely crochet sessions. I made one using the Big Twist cotton yarn, which resembles denim and adds a touch of charm to your bathroom decor. Another washcloth I created using the half double crochet stitch, producing a lovely textured surface. Lastly, I unintentionally ended up with a larger piece, which I repurposed as a fingertip towel. Its vibrant color scheme reminds me of Valentine's Day, making it a delightful addition to my seasonal decorations.
Unique Creations: Fetus, Placenta, and Uterus
In the world of crochet, we've seen countless adorable stuffed animals, hats, scarves, and blankets. However, I recently embarked on a unique project at the request of my daughter's teacher. She wanted a yarn representation of a fetus, placenta, and uterus for a genetics lesson. Intrigued by the challenge, I took it upon myself to create these extraordinary pieces. To fashion the uterus, I crocheted a small hat with pink yarn, using approximately 85 rows. Then, using a 22-pin addi machine, I crafted the placenta. While attaching the placenta is up to the teacher's preference, I left a string to facilitate the decision. Additionally, I formed a little fetus, complete with amigurumi eyes, to resemble a comforting doll. To culminate the project, I employed my Furls lucette fork to produce an umbilical cord, seamlessly connecting the three components.
Herringbone Wrap
Last summer, I embarked on a project called the Herringbone Wrap from Bag of Day Crochet. However, the scorching weather dampened my enthusiasm, causing me to set it aside. Nevertheless, I recently rekindled my passion for this project and resumed its creation. Crafted from ice yarn that reminds me of luscious watermelon, this wrap exudes a refreshing summer vibe. Using the herringbone stitch from Bag of Day Crochet, I'm steadily progressing and eagerly anticipating its completion. Stay tuned for the final reveal of this captivating piece!
Misadventures with a Bunny Pattern
Sometimes, even seasoned crocheters like myself encounter mishaps and bumps in the creative process. I endeavored to make an adorable bunny pattern designed by Katie Did. However, due to my choice of a larger hook and a miscount of rows, disaster struck. Instead of a cute bunny, I unintentionally ended up with a bowling ball-shaped monstrosity. The proportions were all wrong, with the head being disproportionately large. Frustrated but determined, I had to unravel the entire project and start from scratch. In my next attempt, I'll opt for a smaller hook and ensure accurate counting, resulting in a correctly sized and shaped bunny.
Wild Oleander Hooded Scarf
Recently, I've been working on the Wild Oleander Hooded Scarf created by the talented Wickedly Handmade. This enchanting pattern combines the functionality of a scarf with the charm of a hood. Adorned with fringe, it adds a touch of bohemian elegance to any outfit. I'm almost finished with this project, with only a few rounds left to complete the hood and some tidying up of loose ends. I couldn't be prouder of how it's turning out, and I can't wait to showcase the final product. If you're interested in recreating this beautiful hooded scarf, you can find the pattern on Etsy under Wickedly Handmade.
