Introduction
Hey guys, welcome back to my channel! In today's video, I'm going to show you how I made these DIY crochet faux Locs using expression braiding hair and darling natural twist hair. If you're interested in learning how to create this beautiful hairstyle, keep on watching!
Materials Needed
Before we begin, let's gather all the materials we'll need for this DIY project. Here's a list of what you'll need:
- Expression braiding hair
- Italian natural twist hair
- Scissors
- Pen rods or flexi rods
- Elastic bands
- Hot water
- Leave-in conditioner
Make sure you have all these items ready before we proceed to the next steps.
Preparing the Expression Braiding Hair
The first step is to prepare the expression braiding hair. If you're using a new pack, I recommend cutting it into three quarters to get a long length. However, in my case, I had previously used this hair for twists, so I repurposed it. I washed, deep conditioned, and dried the hair before brushing it out. Since the hair was cut into three equal parts, I needed to extend its length. To do this, I tied some parts of the hair together to create a loop. I knotted it twice for extra security. Using my finger, I created a space to easily pass the locks through the loop when installing them.
Dividing and Preparing the Italian Natural Twist Hair
Next, let's divide and prepare the Italian natural twist hair. I used three packs of this hair in total. I divided one pack into two equal parts and set one aside. From the pack I was using, I took a small portion and set it aside as well. You'll see why I did this in the video. Now, take the fluffy 20-inch Italian natural twist hair and start wrapping it around the expression braiding hair. Remember, we're aiming for regular looks, so wrap the hair closely, as if you're threading your own hair. Keep wrapping until you reach the end.
Adding Volume with a Tiny Piece of Hair
To add volume to the locks, take the tiny piece of hair we set aside earlier and divide it into three sections. Wrap it around the previous wrapped hair to give it volume. This step helps minimize the amount of extension used, making the locks lighter.
Securing the Wrapped Hair
Now that we've wrapped the hair, it's time to secure it. Make a firm knot to keep the wrapped hair in place. Repeat this process for each lock until you've completed the desired number of locks.
Curling the Ends of the Hair
To achieve a more defined look, curl the ends of the hair. Take the pen rods and curl the hair onto them, securing them with elastic bands. You can also use straws or flexi rods if you prefer. Once all the locks are curled, it's time to dip the ends in hot water.
Dipping the Ends in Hot Water
Prepare a bowl of hot water with a few drops of leave-in conditioner. Dip the ends of the locks into the hot water, then gently pat them dry with a towel. Let the hair air dry completely before proceeding to the next step.
Unraveling the Curls
Once the hair is completely dry, it's time to unravel the curls. This step reveals the beautiful texture and length of the locks. Slowly unravel each curl and enjoy the transformation.
Final Result
Congratulations, you've successfully created your DIY crochet faux Locs! Stand back and admire your beautiful hair. In my case, I ended up with 55 locks. The next video will show you how to install these locks on your own hair, so stay tuned for that!
