Introduction

Hey there! Welcome to Yarn and Pajamas, the crochet podcast where we share our latest projects and chat about all things yarn-related. I'm Rebecca, your host, and in this episode, I have a couple of finished objects to show you. So let's dive right in!

Finished Object: The Grim Reaper Gnome

The first thing I want to show you is the Grim Reaper gnome that I recently completed. This adorable little guy features a black beard and a tombstone with "Rest in Peace" inscribed on it. I was commissioned to create this set, and while it took me some time to finish, I'm thrilled with the result. The gnome itself was crocheted using Shep Katona cotton in jet black for the beard and hazelnut for the skin tone. The scythe was made with Katona cotton in the color Mercury, and for the handle, I used a mini version of Durable Coral in hazelnut. To add some extra details, I used a durable coral mini in lime for the green accents. Overall, I'm really proud of how this project turned out.

Materials Used for Gnome

Now, let's talk about the materials I used for the Grim Reaper gnome. Here's a list of all the colors and yarns I used:

  • Black Beard: Shep Katona cotton in jet black
  • Skin Tone: Katona cotton in hazelnut
  • Scythe: Katona cotton in Mercury
  • Handle: Durable Coral mini in hazelnut
  • Dirt around the Gravestone: Katona cotton in hazelnut
  • Green Accents: Durable Coral mini in lime

Now that the gnome is finished, I'll be packaging him up and sending him off to his new home. It's always a bittersweet moment when a project is complete, but I know he'll bring joy to his new owner.

Finished Object: Pom Pom Banner

The second finished object I want to share with you is this adorable pom pom banner. It's perfect for adding a touch of Halloween decoration to your home. The banner features pom poms in classic candy corn colors - white, yellow, and orange. I used Big Twist Value yarn in white and Varsity yellow, as well as Red Heart Super Saver yarn in pumpkin for the orange pom poms. To hang the pom poms, I used twine that I found at the Dollar Tree and added small hooks to either end for easy placement. I love how this banner turned out, and I'm considering hanging it in my living room to match the Halloween theme.

Materials Used for Banner

Let's take a look at the materials I used for the pom pom banner:

  • White Pom Poms: Big Twist Value yarn in white
  • Yellow Pom Poms: Big Twist Value yarn in Varsity yellow
  • Orange Pom Poms: Red Heart Super Saver yarn in pumpkin
  • Twine: Dollar Tree jute twine

Creating the pom poms for this project was a bit challenging at first, but with practice, I've learned a few tips and tricks. One tip I discovered is to use waxed thread when tying the pom poms together to prevent them from falling apart. It's made a significant difference in the durability of my pom poms.

Tips for Making Pom Poms

If you're new to making pom poms, here are a few tips to help you achieve great results:

  1. Start with a good-quality pom pom maker, such as the Clover pom pom maker in size 65mm.
  2. Use the basic shape of a circle as a starting point and trim the pom pom to your desired shape.
  3. If your pom poms tend to fall apart in the middle, shave off a small amount from the tied section before securing it with waxed thread.
  4. Experiment with different yarns and colors to add interest to your pom poms.

By following these tips, you'll be able to create beautiful and durable pom poms for various projects!

Current Works in Progress

Lately, I've been experiencing a lack of motivation and ambition when it comes to my crochet projects. I've found myself coming home and not feeling the drive to work on anything. It's been a strange couple of months, but I'm hoping that by taking it one day at a time, my creativity and passion for crochet will return. However, I have managed to start a wreath project, which I'll share with you in a future episode. I've also been working on a cross stitch, alongside my sister and friend Anette. While we're a bit behind on the stitch-along, we're enjoying the process and not putting pressure on ourselves to finish quickly.

Lack of Motivation and Ambition

Before we wrap up, I want to dive a bit deeper into my lack of motivation and ambition. While I'm not depressed, I've been finding it challenging to muster up the energy to engage in activities I usually enjoy. This feeling of inertia has led to a slowdown in my crochet projects and a disconnection from social media platforms. However, I'm committed to making changes and rekindling my love for the craft. With time and patience, I hope to regain my creative spark and enthusiasm.

Upcoming Plans and Projects

Looking ahead, I'm approaching my crochet projects with a relaxed mindset. I want to take each day as it comes and focus on projects that bring me joy. While I don't have any set plans for the immediate future, I'm excited to see where my newfound motivation leads me. I'll keep you updated on my progress and share any exciting projects in upcoming episodes.

Conclusion

That's all for this episode of Yarn and Pajamas! Thank you for joining me as I showcased my finished objects and shared my thoughts on motivation and inspiration. Remember to take things one day at a time and find joy in the simple act of creating. Until next time, happy crafting!
