Tutorial: Crocheting an Embroidery Hoop Art with Crochet Lily of the Valley
Welcome to Part 2 of my crochet tutorial for creating a beautiful embroidery hoop art with crochet lily of the valley. In this tutorial, we will continue from where we left off in Part 1. If you haven't watched Part 1, I recommend starting there to familiarize yourself with the initial steps. You can find the link to Part 1 in the upper right corner.
Supplies Needed
Before we begin, let's gather all the supplies we'll need for this project. You will need the following materials:
- Yarn in various colors (green for the stem and white for the blossoms)
- Crochet hook
- Embroidery hoop
- Fabric for the background
- Sharp needle
- Scissors
Tutorial Part 1: Crocheting the Stem
In this section, we will focus on crocheting the stem of the lily of the valley embroidery. Follow these steps to create the stem:
Step 1: Choosing the yarn and needle
To create a realistic stem, choose a green yarn that closely resembles the color of a lily of the valley stem. Select a sharp needle that is suitable for threading the yarn and embroidering.
Step 2: Starting the stem
Begin by threading your needle with a 60-70 cm (24-28 inches) long piece of yarn. Start at the bottom of the hoop and make a loop by stitching through the same spot or close to it. Create a larger loop for the first stitch to cover the two leaves.
Step 3: Embroidering the stem
Continue embroidering the stem by making small stitches along the line you drew in the beginning. Stitch through the last loop you made and then stitch through to the other side. Once you reach the other side, you can proceed to crochet the lily of the valley blossoms.
Tutorial Part 2: Crocheting the Lily of the Valley Blossoms
For this section, we will focus on crocheting the delicate white blossoms of the lily of the valley. Follow these steps to crochet the blossoms:
Step 1: Creating a magic ring
To start each blossom, create a magic ring. Wrap the yarn around your fingers, ensuring two strings are on top and one on the bottom. Hold the strings with your pinky and thumb, then go underneath the first string and pull the second one through beneath it. Twist your hook to form a loop and pick up the second string from the top. Pull it through the loop to create the magic ring.
Step 2: Crocheting the first round
Crochet single crochet stitches into the magic ring, making sure to crochet over the two strings. Single crochet 8 stitches into the ring. After the eighth stitch, pull the end tight.
Step 3: Crocheting the subsequent rounds
Continue crocheting the subsequent rounds by increasing the number of stitches. In the second round, single crochet 2 stitches into each stitch around, resulting in a total of 16 stitches. In the third and fourth rounds, single crochet 12 stitches in each round.
Tutorial Part 3: Finishing and Attaching the Blossoms
In this section, we will complete the blossom and attach it to the stem. Follow these steps:
Step 1: Sewing in the end
Use a blunt tapestry needle to sew in the end of the yarn. Insert the needle into the next stitch, then between the two loops of the last slip stitch to make it as invisible as possible. Sew in the end, making sure to hide it inside the blossom.
Step 2: Assembly
Repeat the steps to create a total of 9 blossoms or adjust the number according to your preference. Tie a small piece of green yarn around the other end of each blossom.
Step 3: Attaching the blossoms to the stem
Decide the placement of the blossoms on the stem. Attach each blossom by stitching through the last stitch of the stem and secure it. Leave a 1 cm space between each blossom.
