How to Make Crocheted Yoga Socks

Welcome to Nicorette! In this tutorial, I will show you how to make adorable yoga socks. These socks are the crocheted version of a pattern that I have previously shared. I have also created a knit version of this pattern, which will be available in a separate video later this week. This customizable pattern has been highly downloaded and I am excited to share this new variation with you. At the end of the video, you will find a cue card with the written pattern for your convenience.

To make these crochet yoga socks, you will need a size H crochet hook. I prefer using the Susan Bates brand because of how comfortable they feel and how well they can hook into stitches. Any type of yarn can be used for this pattern, as it can be customized to fit any foot size. Whether you use worsted weight yarn or baby yarn like me, make sure to choose an acrylic yarn for easy washing. We will be using Bernat Softee Baby, a size 4 yarn, which is slightly smaller than the usual worsted weight.

Let's get started with the project. Begin by chaining the width of your foot. For my smaller foot, I chained 40. Once you have reached the desired width, insert your crochet hook into the first chain and create a slip stitch. This will secure the chain and allow us to start working the single crochet stitches. Make a single crochet into each chain, working your way around to form the ankle section. Crochet several rounds to achieve the desired length. Keep in mind that these socks should reach a bit above the ankle for a comfortable fit.

Once you have completed the ankle section, we can move on to turning the heel. Slip stitch into the next stitch to mark the beginning of the heel. Chain the remaining stitches until you reach the starting point. In my case, I chained an additional 20 stitches. This will create the opening where the heel will be inserted. Slip stitch back to the beginning to secure the chain. The base of the socks is now in place, and we can proceed to crochet the arch.

To crochet the arch, make single crochet stitches around the opening until the entire arch of the foot is covered. This usually requires about two inches of crochet, equal to approximately twelve rounds. Once you have completed the desired number of rounds, slip stitch to the starting point and fasten off the yarn. Make sure all your stitches are facing outward and not twisted to maintain symmetry in the sock.

To give the socks a neater finish, we can add a decorative rim. Attach the yarn to the top edge of the socks and make forty single crochet stitches around the circumference. This will create a smooth and even rim, eliminating any disjointed appearance. Once you have crocheted all the way around, slip stitch to the starting point and weave in any loose ends. Your crochet yoga socks are now complete!

Remember, there is also a knit version of this pattern available for those who prefer knitting. I will be uploading a video with the knit pattern soon, so stay tuned. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use a different crochet hook size for this pattern?

A: While a size H crochet hook is recommended for this pattern, you can try using different sizes to achieve different sizes and textures in your socks. However, keep in mind that this may require adjustments to the number of stitches and rounds.

Q: How do I choose the right yarn for these yoga socks?

A: It is recommended to use acrylic yarn for these socks, especially if you plan to wear them during yoga sessions or activities that might cause sweating. Acrylic yarn is easy to wash and retains its shape well.

Q: Can I add non-slip soles to these socks?

A: Yes, you can easily add non-slip soles to these crochet yoga socks. There are many tutorials available online that explain how to attach non-slip pads or create textured soles with crochet stitches.

Q: Can I make these socks without the decorative rim?

A: Absolutely! The decorative rim is optional and purely for aesthetic purposes. If you prefer a simpler design, you can skip this step and still have functional and stylish yoga socks.

Q: What other projects can I make using this pattern?

A: This pattern can be adapted to create a variety of socks, such as bed socks, slipper socks, or house socks. The customization options allow you to explore different yarns and stitch patterns to suit your needs and style.
