Introduction
Welcome back to another Stitches and Scribbles video! In today's video, I will be crocheting a Christmas present for someone special. If you're my father-in-law and happen to be watching this, please stop and go click on another video because you're going to ruin the surprise of your Christmas present. Today, I will be making the Cozy Coed Cardigan pattern by Heart Hook Home. I purchased the digital pattern from Etsy, and I'll include the link below in the description box so you can make it too if you choose.
1. Choosing the Pattern
I picked the Cozy Coed Cardigan pattern because it was recommended by my mother-in-law. She showed me a few pictures of cardigans that my father-in-law already has, and we wanted to make something similar to replace or match those styles. This pattern ticked all the boxes for us. It is a shawl collar cardigan, which gives it a bit of personality with the flipped collar. Additionally, it is fairly easy to crochet, making it a great choice for this project.
2. Selecting the Yarn
For this cardigan, I will be using Karen One Pound acrylic yarn in the color Medium Gray Mix. It is a variegated yarn with a heathered look, although it might not show up well on camera. Each skein of this yarn has 812 yards, and I purchased three skeins. I don't think I'll need a fourth one based on the size I chose, but I wanted to ensure I have enough in case I do need to go back and get more. Karen One Pound acrylic yarn is always readily available, which is one of the reasons I chose it for this project.
3. Starting the Project
I have already spent about two hours working on the cardigan. I made good progress during that time, considering I took a break to get a snack and because a yarn order arrived in the mail. I couldn't resist opening the mystery box, although I left the surprise yarn packages wrapped up. I will talk more about the bonus items it included in my next podcast or possibly in a dedicated video.
So far, I have completed the back piece of the cardigan and half of the front piece, which are connected. The pattern calls for making the other half of the front separately and then adding the sleeves and trim. I'm confident that I can finish this project within a week if I film a little bit each day. However, I tend not to film on weekends to spend time with my husband and avoid subjecting others to being on camera or listening to me talk to myself.
4. Progress Update
It's now the next day, and I've already spent some time this morning working on the cardigan. I've made a few more rows since yesterday and plan to squeeze in a couple more before I have to leave for an event later in the day. I'm happy with how the sweater is coming along, even though I haven't reached the more interesting parts of the pattern yet.
While crocheting, I've been listening to the audiobook of "Nine Perfect Strangers" by Liane Moriarty. I know it's being adapted into a TV series, and I wanted to read the book before watching it. I highly recommend the book, especially if you enjoyed "Big Little Lies" as it is by the same author. I'm also catching up on some YouTube videos, particularly from Cinnamon Stitches and Anna Collagen, as I find them enjoyable to watch while working on my projects.
5. Busy Weekend
Apologies for the lack of filming in the past couple of days. I had a busy end of the week and a jam-packed weekend, leaving me with limited time to dedicate to recording. However, I did manage to work on the sweater in short intervals between tasks. Despite the limited filming time, I completed the back and two front panels of the cardigan, making significant progress.
6. Finishing the Vest
I'm excited to share that I have finished the vest area of the cardigan. It's taking shape and looking quite good so far. I have taken care to weave in all the ends neatly, which is always a satisfying accomplishment for me. However, there will be a part two to this video as I need to upload what I have and have it ready for my next deadline. So stay tuned for part two, which will be released next month, where I will complete the sleeves and the edging.
