Introduction
Hi everyone! Welcome to my channel. In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to create a beloved character for children. We'll be making a Mikey hat using crochet techniques. This project is suitable for beginners and can be easily completed with basic crochet skills. So, let's get started!
Materials Needed
Before we begin, let's gather the materials needed for this project. You will need the following:
- Red Heart Super Saver in the color "Hunting Green"
- Red Heart Super Saver in the color "Pumpkin" (optional for previous tutorial)
- Size 3.5mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Stitch markers
- Needle
Creating the Magic Circle
To start the Mikey hat, we will create a magic circle. Here's how to do it:
- Hold the yarn in your hand, with the end of the yarn on the left side.
- Insert the crochet hook into the circle formed by the yarn.
- Yarn over and pull the yarn through the circle, creating a loop on the hook.
- Chain 1 to secure the loop.
Making the First Round of Double Crochets
Now that we have our magic circle, let's begin making the first round of double crochets:
- Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet).
- Make 2 more chain stitches.
- Yarn over and insert the hook into the magic circle.
- Yarn over and pull the yarn through the circle, creating 3 loops on the hook.
- Yarn over and pull through 2 loops.
- Yarn over and pull through the remaining 2 loops.
- Repeat steps 3-6 eleven more times until you have a total of 12 double crochets in the magic circle.
- Close the magic circle by pulling the tail tightly.
Increasing the Stitches
To increase the stitches and shape the beanie, follow these steps:
- Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet).
- Make 1 double crochet in the same space as the chain-3.
- Make 2 double crochets in each space around.
- Repeat steps 1-3 for a total of 24 double crochets.
- Slip stitch in the third chain of the beginning chain-3 to close the round.
Continuing to Increase
Let's continue increasing the stitches to further shape the beanie:
- Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet).
- Make 1 double crochet in the same space as the chain-3.
- Make 1 double crochet in the next stitch.
- Make 2 double crochets in the next stitch, then make 1 double crochet in the next stitch.
- Repeat the pattern between the asterisks (*) all the way around.
- Slip stitch in the third chain of the beginning chain-3 to close the round.
- You should now have a total of 36 double crochets.
Shaping the Beanie
Now, let's shape the beanie by gradually increasing the number of stitches:
- Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet).
- Make 1 double crochet in the same space as the chain-3.
- Make 1 double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches.
- Make 2 double crochets in the next stitch, then make 1 double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches.
- Repeat the pattern between the asterisks (*) all the way around.
- Slip stitch in the third chain of the beginning chain-3 to close the round.
- You should now have a total of 48 double crochets.
