Introduction

Welcome back to my channel! Today, I'm excited to show you how to make a beautiful heart book sleeve. This sleeve can be customized to fit any book size and can also serve as a perfect gift for your loved ones on Valentine's Day. Let's get started!

Materials Needed

To create this heart book sleeve, you will need the following materials:

  • 4 balls of milk cotton yarn
  • 3 millimeter crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Optional: a cute little button

Measuring the Book

Before we begin, it's important to know the size of the book for which we are making the sleeve. Measure the height, width, and depth of your book. For example, my book measures 18.5 centimeters in height, 13.5 centimeters in width, and 2.5 centimeters in depth.

Making the Hearts

To start creating the heart shape, make a slip knot or begin with a magic ring. Chain five or four if you started with a magic ring. Make three triple crochets in the very first chain, followed by three double crochets. Chain one, make one triple crochet, and then another chain one. Continue with three double crochets, three triple crochets, chain three, make a slip stitch, chain one, cut off the yarn, and fasten off. This completes the first heart. Repeat this process to make a total of 24 hearts.

Creating the Granny Squares

Now it's time to make the granny square part of the book sleeve. We will be working in the back loop only for this part. Begin by attaching the yarn in the third chain, not the fourth one. Chain three and make a double crochet in the next stitch. Continue with one double crochet, chain one, and another double crochet in the same stitch. Make a half-double crochet and single crochet in the same stitch. Continue with one single crochet, one half-double crochet, one double crochet, one double crochet with a chain one, another double crochet in the same stitch, one double crochet, one half-double crochet, skip one stitch, and make one single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat this pattern until the end, finishing with one half-double crochet and one double crochet in the same stitch. 'This creates one granny square. Repeat this process to create a total of 12 granny squares for each panel.

Joining the Granny Squares

To join the granny squares together, we will use the invisible seam method. Place the right sides or front sides of the granny squares facing up each other. Starting from one corner of a granny square, sew from corner to corner, working in the front loop only. Pull the end of the sewing yarn tightly. Continue joining all the granny squares together using this method.

Adding Borders

To make the book sleeve larger and neater, we will add a border of single crochets around. Begin by attaching the yarn in the corner of a granny square. Chain one, make a single crochet in the same stitch where you attached the yarn. Continue making single crochets around until you reach the end of the row. When reaching the middle of the connection between two granny squares, make sure to make single crochets in both corners of the granny square. Slip stitch in the first single crochet, chain one, cut off the yarn, and fasten off. Repeat this process for the other panel.

Making the Connecting Part

To create the connecting part, start by making a slip knot. Continue with a chain of eight. Turn your work and work in the back bump of the chain. Make seven single crochets. Chain one, turn your work, and make seven single crochets. Repeat this pattern until the connecting part reaches the desired size for your book.

Joining the Panels and Connecting Part

To join all the parts together, attach the yarn in the corner of a panel and the connecting part. Chain one and make single crochets in both sides together. Continue making single crochets until you reach the other side of the panel. Once finished with the first panel, join it with the second panel using the same method.

Finishing Touches

To make the book sleeve look neater, make one more row of single crochets around the top of the sleeve. Do not fasten off and continue making single crochets until you reach the end of the row. Finally, attach a small button and a chain strap for added cuteness and to secure the book in the sleeve.
