Triceratops Crochet Pattern

In today's video, I'll be sharing two sets of crochet projects that I have been working on. Let's start with the ever-popular Triceratops pattern. Now, some of you might have seen me crochet this adorable dinosaur before, but I've added some variations and twists to keep things exciting. The Triceratops pattern has been a hit whenever I take them to craft sales – I always sell out! Let me show you the two versions I have made for this video.

Variations of the Triceratops Pattern

The first Triceratops I want to showcase is made using an outdated colorway of a teal yarn. It might have had a clearance sticker on it when I used it, but I love how it turned out! The pattern I followed is called Tanner the Triceratops by Nicole Chase. The Triceratops is a great size, and I use a four-millimeter hook to create it. The best part is, it can be made with either worsted weight or plush yarn. Personally, I haven't had anyone fuss over the yarn weight, so it gives me flexibility in choosing materials. I have been selling these Triceratops for $18, but considering how well they sell, I might increase the price to $20.

The second Triceratops variation I made is in a gray color. I used Red Heart yarn for the gray shade and "I Love This Yarn" for the white. The pattern and size remain the same, but the color combination gives it a different look. Both variations are equally adorable, and customers seem to love both styles. However, the decision between plush yarn and worsted weight is still on my mind. I plan to experiment with a plush pattern in the future to see how it goes.

Pricing Considerations for Crochet Items

Now, let's take a moment to address a common question I receive about pricing. I live in an area where people often struggle financially, so I have to find a happy medium when it comes to pricing my crochet items. When I first started attending markets, a fellow crafter advised me that products priced under $20 tend to sell best. Taking this advice to heart, I strive to keep 75% of my inventory below that price point. Of course, I also offer some larger and more intricate items that cost a bit more. Currently, I sell my Triceratops for $18, but I am considering raising the price to $20 due to their popularity.

Unicorn Crochet Pattern

Now, let's move on to the enchanting world of unicorns – another favorite crochet project of mine. I have created two versions of the unicorn to share with you today. The first one follows my go-to horse pattern, which I will share in a moment. The second version showcases a new style using an "I Love This Yarn" speckled colorway.

Different Styles of Unicorn Variations

The first unicorn I want to show you features a retro stripe pattern on the body, created with Red Heart yarn. The white parts of the unicorn are made using "I Love This Yarn." While safety eyes are typically my go-to for the eyes, I decided to stitch eyes this time and added cute little eyebrows. This unicorn style has been a hit, and I have been selling it for $15. However, I'm considering raising the price to $18.

The second unicorn variation showcases a new speckled yarn that I found. I used the speckled yarn for the head and body, and selected complementary colors from the speckles for the arms, legs, and hair. This version features a more intricate stranded hairstyle. It turned out just as cute as the first unicorn, and I believe there are countless options for customizing this pattern. So, these are the two unicorn variations I have made, and they have been selling well at $15. As I mentioned earlier, I'm contemplating increasing the price to $18.

The horse pattern I use for the unicorn is called "Horse" (how fitting!) by Mel's Crochet Hook, designed by Melanie Willis. Although the pattern calls for a white patch on the horse's face, I prefer to omit it. Instead, I make the hooves darker and gradually transition to a lighter shade for the body. It's a slight modification that creates a unique look for my unicorn creations.

Pricing Considerations for Unicorn Crochet Items

Similar to the Triceratops, pricing considerations play an important role in my unicorn sales. I follow the same strategy of keeping the majority of my items priced under $20, as this seems to resonate with buyers in my area. However, some larger or more intricate unicorns may exceed that price range. Currently, I sell my unicorns for $15 each, but I am considering raising the price to $18 due to their popularity.

Conclusion

That wraps up today's crochet adventures. I hope you enjoyed seeing the variations of my Triceratops and Unicorn creations. As always, I strive to provide high-quality crochet items that bring joy to people's lives without breaking the bank. Remember, these prices reflect the market I am in – a small town where affordability is important to many customers. Thank you for joining me today, and keep on crocheting!
