Welcome back to Storybook Crochet! In today's video, we will be continuing with part two of creating an adorable Easter Baby Bunny Diaper Cover Set. If you haven't seen part one where we made the hat, check out the link in the description below. Now, let's focus on the diaper cover. This tutorial is specifically for a newborn size, but if you need a larger size, don't worry! I have a video for that as well, and it will be linked in the description. Before we dive into the tutorial, make sure to hit the subscribe button, like button, and the bell icon to stay updated on our latest videos. You wouldn't want to miss part three where we will be making the bunny shoes with cute little ears and tails!
To start this project, we will need some supplies. I recommend using the "I Love This Yarn" brand from Hobby Lobby, and an eye hook. Once you have your supplies ready, let's jump right into it.
1. Making a Slip Knot
To begin, we need to make a slip knot. This will be the starting point for our crochet project. Once you have made the slip knot, proceed to the next step.
2. Chaining
Next, we will chain 48. The chain serves as the foundation for our project. Make sure you don't have any twists in your chain. Once you have completed the chain, slip stitch into the very first chain you made. Don't forget to make one more chain.
3. Half Double Crochet
Now, we will start working with the half double crochet stitch. In the same stitch as your chain, make a half double crochet. Continue making one half double crochet in each stitch around. By the end, you should have a total of 48 half double crochets.
4. Working in Rounds
To give our diaper cover a nice texture, we will work with a combination of back post and front post half double crochets. In round two, start by working behind the back post of the first stitch. Make a back post half double crochet. In the next stitch, work in front of the post, making a front post half double crochet. Continue this pattern until you have 48 back post and front post half double crochets. Slip stitch to the first stitch and make one chain.
5. Working in Rows
After a few rounds of working in rounds, we will now switch to working in rows. For the next four rounds, simply half double crochet in each stitch around. Make sure to chain one at the end of each row.
6. Front Panel
Moving on, let's focus on the front panel of the diaper cover. To shape the front panel, we will work decreases. Follow the pattern below:
8.1 Decreasing Stitches
In row one, half double crochet across the first 16 stitches. Don't forget to chain one at the end of each row. In rows two to five, decrease over the first two stitches, half double crochet in the next 12 stitches, and decrease over the last two stitches. For the last two rows, simply half double crochet across.
8.2 Half Double Crochet Rows
Time to sew the front and back panels together! Cut a long tail and use it to attach the two panels by weaving it through the matching stitches. After finishing this step, weave in all the loose ends to give it a clean finish.
9. Back Panel
With the front panel complete, let's move on to the back panel. Skip the next six stitches, then attach your yarn in the seventh stitch. Half double crochet over the next 20 stitches. Remember to chain one at the end of each row.
9.1 Attaching Yarn
In rows two to seven, follow the same pattern as the front panel, decreasing stitches and half double crocheting in the remaining stitches.
10. Sewing Front and Back Panels
Cut the yarn and weave in the loose ends. Once the front and back panels are complete, it's time to sew them together. Thread your yarn needle and weave back and forth through the matching stitches of the front and back panels. This will ensure a secure and seamless connection.
11. Lining for Leg Openings
To add a lining to the leg openings, we will be using the front post and back post half double crochet technique we used for the waistband. Start by attaching your yarn and chain one. Then, half double crochet evenly around the leg opening, about 28 times. Slip stitch to the first stitch, chain one, and alternate between back post and front post half double crochets in the next round. Finish off by cutting the yarn and weaving in the loose ends.
12. Making a Pom Pom Tail
Adding a little pom pom tail will add a cute touch to our diaper cover. Use pom-pom makers or check out our tutorial on making pom poms without them. Once you have your pom pom ready, sew it onto the back of the diaper cover.
13. Final Touches and Conclusion
With that, our diaper cover is complete! It's time to admire your handiwork and see the adorable result. Don't forget to subscribe, hit the bell icon, and stay tuned for part three where we will be making the bunny shoes with cute little ears and tails. See you in the next video!
