Introduction
Welcome back to another crochet tutorial with James! In this week's tutorial, we will be continuing our work on the Peppermint Afghan. We'll be focusing on rows four and five of the afghan's edging. But before we dive into that, let's quickly recap the special announcement from the previous video. If we can reach 1,000 subscribers on our YouTube channel, I will be doing a giveaway and giving away the Peppermint Afghan to one lucky subscriber. So make sure to share this video with your friends and family, and don't forget to subscribe!
Overview of the Peppermint Afghan
The Peppermint Afghan is a beautiful crochet project that features a unique peppermint-inspired design. It consists of several peppermint motifs that are joined together to create a stunning afghan. The afghan is bordered with intricate edgings that add a finishing touch to the overall design. In this tutorial, we will be focusing on completing rows four and five of the edging, as well as understanding the corner pieces and making the small motifs.
Getting started with Rows 4 and 5
To get started with rows four and five of the Peppermint Afghan edging, you will need your hook and yarn. Make sure you have the white yarn back on your hook, as we will be using it for these rows.
Edging 4 instructions
For edging four, we will be working in front of the red stitches. Skip the first double crochet and slip stitch into the next double crochet. Then, chain three and double crochet in the next three stitches. After that, do two double crochets in the chain five space. Now, we will move behind the red stitches and do four double crochets, chain two, and three double crochets. Repeat this pattern four times. Continue alternating between working in front of the red stitches and behind the red stitches until you reach the end. Slip stitch into the top of the first chain three to complete edging four.
Edging 5 instructions
For edging five, again, skip the first double crochet and slip stitch into the next one. Chain three and do two double crochets in the same stitch. Then, double crochet, chain two, and double crochet in the next stitch. Double crochet in the next stitch and double crochet in the chain five space. Now, move behind the red stitches and do four double crochets. Repeat this pattern twice. Continue alternating between working in front of and behind the red stitches until you reach the end. Slip stitch into the top of the first chain three to complete edging five.
Understanding the corner pieces
In edging five, you will notice that we only have three corners, while the rest of the edges are rounded. This is because edging five and six are the corner pieces of the afghan. Edging five will be placed in the top left and bottom right corners, while edging six will be placed in the opposite corners. This is important to keep in mind as we continue our work on the afghan.
Making the small motifs
Once we have completed the edging, we will move on to making the small motifs. These motifs will be placed in between each of the peppermint motifs. We will need to make a total of 30 small motifs. The small motifs will add a decorative element to the overall design of the afghan.
Putting it all together
In our final video, we will come back to put all the pieces of the afghan together. We will show you how to connect the peppermint motifs and small motifs to create a cohesive and beautiful afghan. Make sure to stay tuned for the final video to see the finished product.
