Introduction
Welcome to another Stitches and Scribbles tutorial! In this tutorial, we will be making a tiny amigurumi ghost. This adorable ghost can be a fun project for Halloween or any time of the year. Let's get started!
Materials Needed
Before we begin, gather the following materials:
- White yarn
- Stuffing
- Crochet hook (3.5mm)
- Needle for sewing
- Safety eyes, buttons, or embroidery materials for the eyes
Making the Slip Knot
To start, create a slip knot using the white yarn. Leave it slightly loose for easier tightening later. Chain one and single crochet ten stitches into the slip knot.
Starting the First Round
Slip stitch into the first single crochet to seal off the circle. Next, alternate between one single crochet in each stitch and two single crochets in each stitch. Join at the end with a slip stitch.
Creating the Ghost's Head
Continue with one single crochet in every stitch for a few rows to shape the ghost's head. Adjust the number of rows to achieve the desired length.
Adding the Safety Eyes
If you are using safety eyes, it is recommended to insert them now while the ghost is still open in the back. However, if you plan to embroider the eyes or use buttons, you can wait until later.
Continuing the Body
Crochet one single crochet in each stitch for as many rows as needed to reach the desired length for the ghost.
Decreasing the Stitches
Once the ghost is at the desired height, it's time to start the decreases. For this row, work in back loops only to create a frilly effect at the bottom of the ghost. Single crochet in the back loops of the first stitch, then single crochet two together in the back loops. Alternate between single crochet in the back loops and single crochet two together in the back loops across the row.
Stuffing the Ghost
Before sealing off the ghost, insert stuffing to give it shape. Be sure not to lose any yarn in the process. Seal off the ghost by slip stitching into the first single crochet.
Finishing off the Ghost
Cut the yarn and use a yarn needle to whip stitch around the remaining stitches to tighten and close the opening. Tie a knot and secure the end inside the ghost's body.
Additional Frilly Detail
To create a frilly effect at the bottom of the ghost, start a new round with a slip knot. Crochet two single crochets in each loop from the previous back loops only row. Alternate between one single crochet and two single crochets in each loop to adjust the frilliness. Slip stitch to seal off the row and cut the yarn. Weave the end back through the frill and secure it inside the ghost's body.
With that, your amigurumi ghost is complete! Have fun creating your own Halloween creations and stay tuned for more tutorials.
