Introduction

Welcome back, everyone! It's Ivana here, and I have missed all of you. I want to apologize for my absence lately. I haven't been on vacation or anything exciting like that; unfortunately, I've been battling a persistent cold. Let me assure you that it wasn't anything serious, no fevers or anything like that, just a constant runny nose and the need for multiple boxes of tissues. It's been quite annoying, but I'm starting to feel better, although not fully recovered. Anyways, I couldn't create any videos because my voice was all over the place, and I didn't want to subject you all to that. But don't worry, I still have some crocheting projects to share with you today!

My Battle with a Persistent Cold

Let me start by sharing my experience with this stubborn cold. It's been an ongoing battle, with my nose constantly running and the need for endless tissues. I never realized how frustrating a cold could be until now. The worst part is that it lingered for quite some time, preventing me from working on my crochet projects and creating videos. Thankfully, it wasn't anything serious, and I'm on the road to recovery.

Crocheting to Pass the Time

One of the things that kept me sane during my sick days was crocheting. It provided a much-needed distraction from the discomfort and helped pass the time. I had a few projects lined up, including a shawl and some adorable amigurumi chickens. Despite not feeling my best, I found solace in the rhythmic movements of crochet hooks and the colorful yarns.

The Scrap Shawl Project

Let me take you back to when I started working on a scrap shawl for my oldest daughter. It was a while ago, maybe last year, and I can't recall the exact details. The shawl was made using various scrap yarns in purple and blue hues. Once my middle daughter saw it, she wanted one too, so I began working on a pink version for her. The shawl is incredibly simple but turned out huge and cozy. I used an 8mm hook and held two strands of yarn together. Unfortunately, I can't provide specific yarn names since I used whatever colors matched and were available. Joining the yarns was a bit tricky, but I managed to create a seamless finish.

Creating Adorable Amigurumi Chickens

Apart from the shawl, I also took on a commissioned project. A friend of mine asked me to make an amigurumi chicken as a gift. She found the pattern, which I'll link below for reference. I have to give her credit for discovering such a cute design. The chicken is incredibly squishy, and I couldn't resist making a few extra ones for myself. The pattern was well-written, guiding me through the process of attaching wings and feet to ensure everything was neatly aligned. The only challenge I faced was with the visibility of stitches, especially when using red and pink yarn. To overcome this, I used stitch markers to keep track of each stitch and ensure consistency.

The Pattern and Supplies Used

The pattern I used for the amigurumi chickens was purchased on Etsy, and I highly recommend it. The designer, Charlotte, did an excellent job of providing clear instructions and ensuring the final product looked adorable. I'll include the link to the pattern in the description below, so make sure to check it out if you're interested in making your own squishy chickens. As for the supplies, I used Mainstays Cozy Chanel yarn in white for both chickens. The feet and beak were made using Chanel Home Slim yarn in mustard, giving them a vibrant touch. For the pink chicken, I used Carmine Rose yarn called Sweet Snuggles Lights, which I found at Michael's.

Challenges and Successes in the Chicken Project

While creating the amigurumi chickens was a delightful experience, I faced a few challenges along the way. The main issue stemmed from the yarn I used, which made it difficult to see the stitches clearly. This led me to use an abundance of stitch markers to maintain accuracy during the shaping process. Despite this minor setback, I successfully completed multiple chickens, each with their own unique charm. The safety eyes added a touch of whimsy, and the overall softness made them perfect for cuddling.

Working on the Tunisian Calendar Blanket

In addition to the shawl and chickens, I also made progress on the Tunisian calendar blanket. I did fall a bit behind due to my cold, but I managed to complete December's section. The stitch I used for this particular month is called Lacy Lattice Stitch, and it turned out quite well. With every passing month, the blanket grows, and I look forward to seeing the final result. Rest assured, I'll share more updates on this project in the future.

Completing Long-Term Projects

As much as I enjoyed working on various crochet projects, I've come to realize the importance of completing long-term projects. There's a certain sense of satisfaction that comes with finishing something you've been working on for years. Therefore, I've decided to prioritize completing those long-standing projects before diving into new ones. It's time to wrap up loose ends and start fresh in the upcoming year.

Wrapping Up and Looking Forward to 2023

I want to express my gratitude to all of you for watching and supporting my crochet journey. It means the world to me, and I apologize for the gaps in content caused by my recent illness. Moving forward, I have exciting plans for 2023, and I hope you'll join me for more crochet adventures. Stay tuned for updates on my long-term projects and new creations. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season, and I'll see you soon!
