Introduction
Hey guys, it's Angelia! I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. I wanted to share some of the finished crochet projects that I've been working on. These objects have been completed for over a month now, but I got busy with gardening and life in general, so I'm just now getting around to sharing them. I apologize in advance for any background noise you may hear, my windows are open and my cats are running around. Let's jump right in and take a look at these adorable finished objects!
Finished Objects from a Favorite Crochet Book
One of my favorite books for crochet projects is "Crochet Cute Critters" by Sarah Zimmerman. In this book, I found a few patterns that I couldn't resist trying out. Let's take a closer look at each of them.
Luna the Calico Cat
As a cat person, I couldn't resist making a crochet version of my own cats. I have two new cats, Luna and Woody, and I wanted to capture their unique characteristics in these crochet creations. Luna is a calico cat, so I tried my best to replicate her colors and markings. Although it doesn't have the exact orange tones of Luna's fur, I think the finished crochet cat turned out really cute. It even has whiskers, although they might be a bit hard to see due to the black yarn used. Luna's unique expression with big eyes and a slightly scared look was definitely captured in this crochet creation.
Woody the Orange and White Cat
Next up is Woody, my other cat. Woody is an orange and white cat with spots, so capturing his distinct appearance was a fun challenge. I used a different approach for the ears on this crochet cat. Instead of the pointed ears from the book's pattern, I opted for a rounder shape that resembles Woody's actual ears. The result is a lovable crochet cat that closely resembles Woody's appearance. The mustard-colored yarn used for Woody's fur, along with his gold eyes and little pink nose, turned out really cute. The ears from the ammonico cat pattern in the book gave him an extra touch of adorableness.
The Adorable Sloth
The next project I want to share is one that I had never attempted before: a crochet sloth. I was super excited to try out some new yarn for this project. I used "Go for Faux" yarn by Lion Brand in the husky colorway. This yarn is a super bulky weight and made from 100% polyester. Despite being a bit challenging to work with initially, I managed to create this adorable sloth. The pattern I used was a free one from The Loopy Lamb. I made a few modifications, such as adding the sloth's hands for cuteness. The safety eyes give it a sweet expression. Overall, I think the finished sloth turned out extremely cute, and I might even have enough yarn left to make another one.
The Woodpecker
As a bird enthusiast, woodpeckers hold a special place in my heart. I have a dead pine tree in my backyard that is home to a family of woodpeckers every year. Naturally, I couldn't resist making a crochet woodpecker. I used a pattern from The Friendly Red Fox for this project. It's a free pattern, and I absolutely fell in love with the finished result. I made a few size modifications, so my crochet woodpecker is a bit larger than the original pattern. The black velvet yarn from Hobby Lobby's "I Love This Yarn" collection worked perfectly for this project. I also added some white chenille yarn from Dollar Tree for the belly and the gray on the wings. The little safety eyes and the detail on the tail make this woodpecker one of my favorite creations so far.
Trying Out New Yarn: Go for Faux
During my crochet journey, I came across a new yarn that I was eager to try out called "Go for Faux" by Lion Brand. This yarn has a super bulky weight, making it perfect for creating plush and cuddly projects. I decided to use it for the sloth project mentioned earlier. While it took some getting used to, I found that the yarn was forgiving and the finished result was worth the initial challenges. The husky colorway I chose gave the sloth a delightful appearance, and the 100% polyester material ensures that it feels just as soft and cozy as it looks.
Other Projects in Progress
In addition to these finished objects, I have a few other projects in progress. One of them is a Jada blanket that I haven't touched in a while. I also have a Mrs. Claus project that I need to get back to. Recently, I started working on a cardigan, which is something I've always wanted to crochet. It's still a work in progress, but I'm taking it slow since I've been quite tired lately. Perhaps I'll film a chat video while working on it to keep you all updated.
Conclusion
That wraps up the showcase of my recently completed crochet projects. I hope you enjoyed seeing the adorable characters I was able to create. Crafting these items brings me joy, and I love sharing them with fellow crochet enthusiasts. Stay tuned for more updates and videos on my crochet journey. Have a wonderful and blessed day!
